MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday renewed hope for peace in war-torn Ukraine, in observance of the 1,000th day since the war began in the European country.

“Yesterday marked the 1,000th day since the war in Ukraine began. In my meeting with President @ZelenskyyUa on June 3rd, I reiterated the PH’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity,” Marcos said in a social media post.

“It is our hope that we will see comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” he added.

Marcos also said Ukraine is a valued partner of the Philippines, and the relationship between the two countries goes from “strength to strength.”

Russia recently launched a drone and missile attack that killed eight people and wounded dozens on a nine-storey building in the city of Sumy in northern Ukraine, a report from the Associated Press dated November 18 said.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia’s war against his country will “end sooner” once United States President-elect Donald Trump assumes office, a report from Agence France-Presse (AFP) dated November 16 said.

“It is certain that the war will end sooner with the policies of the team that will now lead the White House. This is their approach, their promise to their citizens,” Zelensky said in an interview with Ukrainian media outlet Suspilne, as quoted by the AFP report.
